Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural, relaxed, and focused state of awareness. Your body rests completely, but your mind stays awake and receptive. Think of it like getting lost in a great movie or zoning out during a long drive—it’s that same peaceful, focused state!

How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis relaxes your conscious mind so we can work directly with your subconscious—the place where all your habits and "programming" live. By introducing positive suggestions in this receptive state, you can rewire your brain to replace old, unwanted patterns with new, healthy behaviors.

What does hypnosis feel like?

It feels peaceful, comfortable, and rejuvenating. Everyone experiences it a bit differently—you might feel pleasantly heavy like a "rag doll," or just feel like you're resting with your eyes closed. Either way, you'll likely feel deeply refreshed afterward.

Why should I see a professional instead of just using internet recordings?

Generic recordings are great for general relaxation, but they aren't customized to your life. A professional hypnotherapist tailors every single hypnotic suggestion specifically to you and your unique personal goals to ensure the best results.

Am I going to cluck like a chicken or lose control?

Only if you really want to! That kind of stage hypnosis is purely for entertainment. In clinical hypnotherapy, you are completely alert and in full control of your mind and body. You can never be made to do anything against your will or moral code, and you won't reveal any secrets.

Can I get "stuck" in hypnosis?

Absolutely not! You can't get stuck in hypnosis any more than you can get stuck awake. You can naturally bring yourself out of it at any time. If a hypnotherapist didn't gently wake you at the end of a session, you would naturally just fall asleep or return to full alertness on your own.

Do you put me to sleep during my session?

Not usually. Hypnosis is a very relaxed state—similar to how you feel right before falling asleep—but you remain aware of what is going on. However, if you do happen to fall asleep, that is totally fine! I will just gently wake you up when the session is over.

What happens in the first hypnotherapy session?

Your first session (usually 90 minutes) is all about setting you up for success. It includes:

  • An in-depth consultation to discuss your goals and challenges.

  • A breakdown of the process so you know exactly what to expect.

  • Suggestibility testing to see how your brain best receives information.

  • Your first hypnotherapy experience to start making positive changes!

How many sessions will I need?

Because everyone is unique, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Within the first 1 to 3 sessions, we’ll see how quickly you respond. Some clients resolve their concerns in just one session, while the average is around 4 to 6 sessions.

Can you do hypnotherapy via Zoom or FaceTime?

Definitely! Virtual hypnotherapy is highly effective and works just as well as being in the office. You just need to make sure you have a quiet, private room where you can fully relax.

Why are my dreams so vivid since starting hypnotherapy?

That's actually proof that the hypnosis is working! Hypnotherapy helps you release unwanted emotions, and our minds naturally continue this venting and releasing process while we dream.

What kinds of issues can hypnotherapy help with?

Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool for a multitude of goals. We frequently help clients overcome specific and generalized fears, reduce stress and anxiety, move past bad relationships, build self-confidence, stop smoking, and achieve weight loss.

Do you take insurance or offer payment plans?

Traditional insurance usually doesn't cover hypnotherapy, but self-directed plans often can be used. I also offer discount packages to bring down the cost of your individual sessions.

Can I have family present during my session?

Of course, that is always an option if it makes you more comfortable, though most clients prefer privacy for their sessions.
